The Berlioz Festival> Presentation

The Berlioz Festival is an essential summer event of the Isère department and more widely of the Rhône-Alpes Region. Its international fame makes it one of the biggest appointments of classical music festivals’ season. It is also one of few symphonic music festivals in France.
It takes place each summer at the end of August at La Côte Saint-André, birthplace of the great romantic genius Hector Berlioz.
Main place of symphonic concerts, the court of Louis XI Castle is fitted during the festival of a structure unique in France that protects public and musicians in case of bad weather, combining acoustics quality of a concert hall and outdoors benefits. The largest national and international orchestras take the greatest pleasure to perform major works of the Romantic repertoire.
Many concerts are held in the department and the neighboring municipalities, mostly small concerts, recitals and chamber music.
For fifteen days, the city of La Côte Saint-André wears the colors of the Berlioz Festival and takes the rhythm of street concerts, in the Medieval Halle, Hector Berlioz Museum, at the cinema, etc..
An accessible pricing policy allows everyone to enjoy great musical moments in a spectacular setting, in a friendly and popular atmosphere.

The Festival is organized by the Agence Iséroise de Diffusion Artistique (Artistic Diffusion Agency of Isère), also named the a.i.d.a.
The a.i.d.a. is a public cultural cooperation (EPCC) in place since 2004 and subsidized by the Conseil Général de l’Isère (General Council of Isère), the municipality of La Côte-Saint-André and the Community of Commons of Bièvre-Liers. The a.i.d.a. is chaired by Pascal Payen, Vice-President of the Conseil Géneral in charge of Culture and Heritage. It is administered by a board composed of representatives of the governments that subsidize it and qualified personalities. It is directly related to these people that works the director Bruno Messina. Close to the Conseil Général de l’Isère, the a.i.d.a. is his main tool for the diffusion of performing arts. The Conseil Général occasionally uses it for setting up other cultural events. In addition to organizing the Berlioz Festival, a.i.d.a. organizes other major cultural events of the Isère department.
